The caretaker even allowed us to view up into the old bell tower.

We had a day wondering around finding a few hikes and an old church. It was a bit rainy now and then, but it added to the atmosphere. This church was originally built in 1131, during the Middle Ages it was an important stop on the route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. When we got to this site, it was locked so James went to a little building on the property and the lady called the caretaker. He came and gave us a thorough tour and although we did not understand a whole lot of what he said it was quite informative and enjoyable. It is an interconfessional church, used for both Catholic and Protestant services, and is still in use today.
